Korean language level Framework

A1

TOPIK level 1 (1급)
(Beginner)

Expected learning hours: 100 hours

(For English speakers)

In this level, you can...

- Introduce yourself.

 

- Order food at a cafe.

 

- Talk about simple topics such as family, hobby, weather, etc.

 

- Make simple sentences using about 800 basic vocabulary and grammar.

 

- Understand and create simple sentences.

A2

TOPIK level 2 (2급)
(Upper Beginner)

Expected learning hours: 230 hours

(For English speakers)

In this level, you can...

- Make a phone call or ask a favour to a friend.

 

- Use bank or post office service in daily life.

 

- Can understand and use private, familiar topics using 1.5-2K vocabulary.

 

- Differentiate formal and informal language styles depending on the type of situations.

B1

TOPIK level 3 (3급)

(Intermediate)

Expected learning hours: 780 hours

(For English speakers)

In this level, you can...

- Feel comfortable with living a daily life and conduct fundamental linguistic functions in order to maintain social relationships.

 

- Express and understand familiar social topics in paragraphs.

 

- Differentiate spoken and written language and use them in different situations.

B2

TOPIK level 4 (4급)

(Upper intermediate)

Expected learning hours: 1080 hours

(For English speakers)

In this level, you can...

- Conduct linguistic functions needed for using public facilities and maintaining relationships to some degree.

 

- Understand easy content from the news, articles. 

 

- Understand and use general societal, abstract topics rather fluently.

 

- Understand and use frequently used idioms based on understanding of Korean culture.

C1

TOPIK level 5 (5급)

(Advanced)

Expected learning hours: 1380 hours

(For English speakers)

In this level, you can...

- Conduct linguistic functions needed for research or tasks in expertise to some degree.

 

- Understand and talk about unfamiliar topics across politics, economy, society, and culture to some degree.

 

- Differentiate formal/informal and spoken/written contexts, and use required language styles.

C2

TOPIK level 6 (6급)

(Advanced)

Expected learning hours: 1580 hours

(For English speakers)

In this level, you can...

- Conduct linguistic functions needed for research or tasks in expertise rather fluently.

 

- Use and talk about unfamiliar topics across politics, economy, society, and culture without having difficulty. 

 

- Although not at native level, but have almost no difficulty with expression.
